Photochemistry
Photochemistry
CHM4932 (Undergraduate) & CHM 6938 (Graduate)
The course will provide a theoretical background for understanding photophysical and photochemical phenomena. Main classes of artificial and natural photochemical reactions will be described. Optical spectroscopy techniques (stationery and time-resolved), as well as data analysis techniques will be introduced. The course includes an introduction to Matlab as a powerful graphing and data analysis software.
Upon successful completion, students will:
- understand and explain the key concepts in photophysics and photochemistry.
- have broad knowledge of natural and artificial photochemical reactions.
- provide molecular interpretation of spectroscopic data of photochemical reactions.
- have basic knowledge on how to use Matlab to analyze and present spectroscopic data.
- Apply their knowledge to solving quantitative photochemical problems.
